Autumn Loves

I love Autumn..  I am not sure when it officially starts, and am sure their is an official date, but for me it is sometime between back to school and the 1st October;  Usually when the leaves start to turn and there is a distinct chill in the air on the early morning school run.. and I start to spy Blackberries that are begging to be picked!  The September/October cusp is probably my very favourite part of the season, as the clocks haven’t yet gone back so we still get some late afternoon sunshine.  Plus it is Harvest festival which to me that really sets the season in full swing!

Year after year I blog about our activities at this time of year – so here is a quick list of my Autumn Loves…  yes some of these can be done at any time of year, but for me they are always best now

  • Sunny, Muddy Walks in Wellies
  • Kicking Leaves with the kids
  • Misty mornings on the Downs
  • Autumn Hues
  • Our Minty Alcholic Hot Chocolate (when getting in from a walk)
  • An excuse to buy a new coat (like I need one)
  • Stocking up the wood pile
  • Collecting Pine Cones
  • The first fire (with indoor toasted marshmallows and a movie)
  • Apple Picking (from my own tree!)
  • Planting Bulbs to look forward to in random places
  • Apple Cake
  • Crumbles and Custard
  • Squashes
  • Long Slow Stews
